Catalog description

This course will chronologically and thematically explore the construction of modern Japan from the 1800s to the 1960s. In the course of this exploration, we will explore what exactly was “modern” and imperial about Japan’s transformation from a feudal system to an increasingly emperor-centered and globally-engaged state and society.
