HEBR 432
Advanced Readings in Hebrew Poetry.
Wheaton College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
In this course, students will read, translate, and analyze Hebrew poetry in the original language of composition. Readings will be drawn from a range of genres, periods, and difficulty levels. Through a combination of primary and secondary readings, close reading assignments, and book discussions, students will weigh the different definitions of and approaches to the study of Hebrew poetry taken by others in the past and refine their own approach to translating, analyzing, and appreciating these texts. By reading hundreds of verses of biblical and post-biblical Hebrew poetry, they will develop greater reading fluency as well as an understanding of how the Hebrew language and poetic aesthetics changed through time. Prerequisite: HEBR 201 .
