Catalog description

An introduction to poetry, drama, and prose of the seventeenth-century that examines works in relation to the social, political, economic, and religious changes that define the period. Students will engage with writers such as Margaret Cavendish, John Donne, George Herbert, Ben Johnson, Andrew Marvell, John Milton, and Katherine Philips. Students will gain insight into the works of various authors, develop an overall scope of the period and where it fits within literary history, and consider the relevance of seventeenth-century writers today.
