Catalog description

Sports have a played a vital role in American life, including among Christians. How Christians have thought about and engaged with sports has changed over time. Drawing from the interdisciplinary field of sports studies, theology, and history, this class will situate sports and Christianity within significant themes in US history including race, gender, religion, and class from the late 19th to the late 20th centuries. The course incorporates the many voices populating American history, including men and women from historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups.
