“Hybrids in Borderlands: Mixed-Race Literature” will explore the multifaceted representations of mixed-race identity in literature, identifying themes, motifs, and literary techniques employed by authors to explore this topic. In a world that is increasingly diverse and interconnected, understanding the experiences of individuals with biracial or multiracial backgrounds is essential. Through a diverse selection of literary works spanning various genres, historical periods, and cultural contexts, students will examine how mixed-race identity has been depicted, contested, and celebrated in literature. This course provides a unique opportunity to analyze the intersection of race, identity, and culture while fostering a deeper understanding of the experiences of mixed-race individuals.
