Catalog description

This course invites students to explore the relationship between living a full and flourishing life and the stewardship of the natural world. We will examine both the popular resurgence of agrarian values as represented by figures like Wendell Berry as well as recent trends in conservationism. Additionally, and in the spirit of the course’s readings, we will look to take our study outdoors and acquaint ourselves with the fields and flora of our immediate environment. Our modest thesis is that careful attention to the world of plants—cultivated and wild—is an essential component of a life well lived.
