The Bible, Slavery, and Liberation.

Catalog description

This course examines the historical worlds of three forms of slavery under a discussion of the abolitionist movement: (1) the Ancient Near East (OT context), (2) the Greco-Roman World (NT Context), and (3) the Antebellum South (American Context). This course looks at the slavery debates as a test case to teach us how to read Scripture well so that believers might be agents of good and not evil. It is an attempt to learn from the abolitionists how to read the book that sets the captives free. Pre or Corequisite: ARCH 211 or BITH 211 or ARCH 213 or BITH 213 .
