Catalog description

This interdisciplinary course explores the biblical, historical, and theological development of understandings of God’s emotions in conversation with the major theories of emotion in psychology. This course will discuss specific biblical texts describing divine emotion in their literary and historical context, examine the ways in which contemporary psychological theories of the human self, explicit and implicit, influence our understanding of God’s emotions, and analyze the ways in which psychological study can be integrated with the study of biblical texts and theological concepts. Prerequisites: BITH 211 or BITH 221 or ARCH 211 and BITH 213 or ARCH 213 .
