Catalog description

This course explores the Italian Renaissance and Protestant Reformation as avenues of Christian aesthetic and spiritual development. Topics include late Byzantine art and spirituality, late medieval mysticism, with a primary focus on art from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries in Italian and Northern European contexts. Special attention is paid to way the Protestant Reformation conflicted with and was propagated by artistic production. Alternate years in Spring semester.
