Catalog description

This course explores the psychological, cultural, and social factors involved in defining patterns of thought and behavior as abnormal with a focus on mental/psychiatric disorders as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. A strong emphasis is pl aced on understanding scientific research on predictors of and treatment for psychological disorders. Biological and psychological perspectives are emphasized for a wide range of psychological disorders (mood, anxiety, personality, substance use, eating/bo dy image, dissociative, psychotic and sexual disorders).
