Catalog description
A reading of literature based on two premises: First, that literature is a product of culture arising from a web of historical conditions, relationships, and influences that in some measure determine literary form and content; second, that literature is at the same time an agent of culture that shapes social practices. Courses may include studies of the exchange between colonial and post - colonial fiction, the evolution of particular story lines (such as the Arthurian myth) through a variety of literary text s, and the relationship between classicism and romanticism.
