Advanced Practicum

Catalog description

This internship provides students with a pre -student teaching experience prior to the formal practicum in the spring. It covers phases 1 and 2 of the student teaching experience. Over the course of 72 hours in a K -12 classroom setting, students gradually a ssume increasing levels of responsibility for classroom instruction. Experiences include observing, identifying expectations of the school, assisting the teacher, leading classroom activities, teaching one short lesson, and planning and delivering one full lesson. This pre -apprentice teaching experience is designed to prepare students for the full -time student teaching placement the following semester. Supervision and support are provided by both the cooperating classroom teacher and a college faculty mento r.
