Catalog description

This course focuses on creating language - and text -rich classroom environments that engage K -6 learners in reading, writing, and thinking to build knowledge across content areas. Students will explore instructional strategies, curricular resources, and texts aligned with state literacy standards, evaluating them for complexity, content, and cultural relevance. Emphasizing sociocultural, historical, linguistic, and theoretical perspectives on language development, the course supports effective literacy plann ing and instruction. Students will also develop skills for teaching foundational handwriting, language, and writing across genres and purposes. Special attention is given to addressing the diverse educational and cultural needs of all students.
