Foundations Of Literacy Education I

Catalog description

This course provides a research -based foundation in literacy development and instruction, drawing on insights from the science of reading. Key topics include phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency, comprehension, and both written and oral expression. Students will examine the cognitive, socio -cultural, linguistic, and motivational factors that shape literacy development, as well as the developmental progression of learning to read. Emphasis is placed on the essential compon ents of effective reading instruction and evidence -based strategies for teaching literacy to learners across all age groups, from early childhood through young adulthood.
