Catalog description

This course provides an overview of the U.S. health care system and the policies that influence it. Students will become familiar with the current and ongoing debates that shape health care and health policy in the United States and the role of the federal and state governments in the health care system. Course topics will include the policymaking process, the economics of health care, the ways in which people receive and pay for health care, the major programs that make up the financing and delivery of health care as well as the challenges to the health care system.
