Justice Systems Across Cultures

Catalog description

Using the justice systems of the United States and other countries as case studies, this course will examine a wide variety of justice practices, the contemporary forms of corrections being practiced around the globe, with the aim to understand the benefits and problems. This course will offer students an opportunity to study the leading justice practices to explore what works best in responding to crime more holistically and improve desistance from offending from diverse global perspectives. The goal is to increase students’ knowledge of how different cultures have utilized the administration of justice in relation with vast cultural differences. Moreover, one of the ultimate objectives of this class is to encourage students to critically examine if, how, and whether effective international practices could be adopted here in the United States.
