Catalog description

This is an interdisciplinary class that uses the lens of history and social context to understand major scientific advances and setbacks in the development of medicine. Core topics include ground breaking discoveries such as antibiotic and vaccine development, ethical and legal issues such as the Tuskegee Study, and current technological advances in areas such as stem cell research, individualized medicine, and disease treatment. Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory section per week.
