Contemporary Issues in Medical Ethics - Health Equity

Catalog description

Students will have encountered and considered numerous topics during the completion of Meaning in Medicine 1-4. These topics range from what it means to be sick to methods of research health equity to what it means for health and disease to be distributed fairly. This elective wil give students the opportunity to explore and evaluate in greater depth one or more of the topics from Meaning in Medicine 1-4. It will provide an intellectual environment to question assumptions, make bold claims, and otherwise become more familiar with the selected topic in health equity. After consultation with the instructor, students will select a topic from Meaning in Medicine 1-4 that they would like to explore. Following topic approval, students will obtain greater familiarity with research on that topic, identify an idea, develop that idea, and prepare an abstract that may be suitable for submission to a national conference.
