MEDU 9900 Capstone is a course in the spring of the fourth year and serves as the culminating experience for the medical ethics, health law, professionalism, and medical humanities threads of the curriculum. Sessions are interactive and interdisciplinary. Students apply structured ethical frameworks to complex clinical cases drawn from their own clerkship experience, analyze proposed health legislation and formulate advocacy positions, and work in interprofessional teams alongside students and faculty from nursing, social work, and law. Humanities sessions use visual art, film, and performance to develop observational acuity and reflective practice. The course concludes with mock malpractice and professional misconduct hearings, prepared with member of the local legal community.
