This elective deepens medical students' understanding of clinical language by tracing medical terminology to its Latin and Ancient Greek roots. In this course, students will: build a working medical vocabulary of common Greek/Latin roots; identify prefixes/suffixes/roots and deduce meaning from unfamiliar terms; describe at a basic level how Greek and Roman medicine influenced terminology; and be able to explain the origins of modern western medicine. The course includes asynchronous modules which are completed virtually and 2-3 meetings with the instructor to discuss comprehension of course material.
