Catalog description

This course is designed to develop awareness and critical understanding of a range of contemporary sport and exercise issues. The course will cover a survey of topics such as exercise science, athletic training, sports studies, and research in sports with a focus on current issues. Students will also examine social and cultural norms within a sporting or exercise context. Particular emphasis is placed on the socio-cultural implication of sport in relation to gender, race, social class, and sexuality; the impact of sport and exercise on societies both small and large scale; and contemporary views of careers within sport and exercise and the relationships between them. Prerequisites: BUS 300; ORG 300 (or equivalent); LDR 300 (or equivalent); SCI 225 (or equivalent)
