Catalog description

This course explores the theories and practical applications of motivation and emotional intelligence, analyzing how these factors drive behavior, influence decision-making, and shape performance across professional and personal settings. Through critical evaluation of motivation models and emotional intelligence frameworks, students will develop strategies to enhance individual and group outcomes in home, school, and workplace environments. The course emphasizes fostering a growth mindset, implementing evidence-based interventions, and leveraging emotional intelligence to improve leadership, collaboration, and resilience. A key component of this course is a practicum experience, where students engage in project-based learning to bridge theory and practice. By designing and implementing real-world deliverables for employers or placement organizations, students will gain hands-on experience, strengthen problem-solving skills, and assess the effectiveness of motivational and emotional intelligence strategies. EDU 725 Design Thinking: Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (3 credit hours | 2.5 lecture/.5 practicum) This course focuses on theoretical models and hands-on applications to investigate creative concepts and understand how new ideas are generated and developed into innovative solutions and entrepreneurial projects. The practicum component gives students invaluable experience by focusing on design thinking. As part of practicum, students produce deliverables for their employers or placement organizations, through a combination of readings, case studies, videos, discussions, and practical assignments, where they will learn to apply frame innovation to create novel solutions, solve problems, and foster new thinking in their respective fields.
