Catalog description
This course prepares future educators, youth professionals, and support staff to build meaningful, culturally responsive partnerships with families and communities. Students will explore how family structures, language, culture, and socio-economic factors shape engagement, and learn inclusive practices to welcome, honor, and connect with all families. Through real-world case studies, trauma-informed strategies, and interactive tools, participants will examine barriers to engagement, develop communication and collaboration plans, and understand their responsibilities as mandated reporters. The culminating project—Building Community Collaboration: A Guide for Engaging Families and Stakeholders—equips students with a personalized toolkit for fostering equity, trust, and shared leadership in educational settings.
