Catalog description

This doctoral-level course provides an in-depth exploration of advanced qualitative research methodologies, emphasizing the theoretical, philosophical, and ethical foundations that underpin qualitative inquiry. Students will critically engage with diverse qualitative traditions—including phenomenology, narrative inquiry, ethnography, and case study—while developing advanced skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Emphasis is placed on reflexivity, positionality, and the role of the researcher as an instrument of inquiry. By the end of the course, students will have an initial design for their dissertation research demonstrating their ability to apply advanced techniques, critically reflect on their positionality, and produce scholarly work suitable for publication or presentation.
