Catalog description

Appalachia is often misunderstood, stereotyped as backward and homogenous despite its diverse cultures and traditions. AI might depict an Appalachian as a straight, White, middle-aged Christian man, but this course highlights those excluded by such images. Using insights from multiple disciplines, we will examine power, difference, and otherness to explore the experiences and interactions of diverse Appalachian communities.
