Examination of privateering and piracy during the early modern period, explaining the development of these phenomena during the era of global exploration, then focusing on the ‘golden age’ of piracy (mainly in the Caribbean and the Atlantic) from 1650 until about 1730. It explores the economic, political, and legal aspects of piracy alongside its social and material culture.
