PR: EE 436 . General philosophy of protective relaying-relay systems, selection of circuit breakers, classification of relays, back-up protection. Protection basics, relay coordination, CT/VT selection, relay characteristics, amplitude and phase comparators, basic design concepts. Differential, directional, over-current, impedance, admittance, reactance relays, characteristics and applications. Burden calculation protective relaying schemes for generators, transformers, busses, and transmission lines. relay coordination for radial distribution systems.
