Phonological Sciences with Lab

Catalog description

Study of the descriptive, physiological, and acoustic phonetics along with the phonological rules and processes of American English. Anatomy and physiology of the oral structures, pharyngeal structures, and neurological basis of speech will be reviewed. The lab includes the application of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to the American English language, including an analysis of the production of sound both in isolation and connected speech.
