Catalog description

This course provides students with an opportunity to develop and practice advanced, trauma-informed, culturally competent counseling skills. The associated Immersive experience affords students the opportunity to practice and build upon advanced counseling skills and group counseling skills both as a group member and group co-leader/leader. This is conducted through in-person practice demonstrations and experiences involving personal disclosure, role-play, and group and instructor feedback. Additional learning activities including the opportunity to meet with local consumers and families of mental health services will be offered along with modules related to advanced legal and ethical issues such as family/business laws, professional practice, psychopharmacology, and Telehealth. In addition, students are assessed on their dispositions using the Key Professional Dispositions (KPD) form. Course delivery methods for teaching and learning include online, blended, and face to face modalities.
