Human Growth and Development

Catalog description

This course examines human development from infancy through advanced age, focusing on the development of perceptual and cognitive processes, psychosocial roles, and familial interpersonal processes. Cultural diversity and individual differences are integral to this course. Specifically, students will be introduced to basic strategies for counseling children and adolescents, with careful consideration of family, peer, school, and community contexts; basic strategies that help facilitate change in adults’ lives, particularly in the context of significant transitions and life events; addressing aging, long term care, and elder abuse and neglect; the consideration of various gender identities, and sexual/affectional orientations; while understanding the impact of changes in career, interpersonal relationships, and family structures. Course delivery methods for teaching and learning include online, blended, and face to face modalities.
