Crisis/Trauma Response and Intervention

Catalog description

This course addresses the impact of various experiences of trauma on the mental health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. Among issues to be addressed is the trauma that results from natural or other unexpected disasters, sexual assault, warfare, escaping violence and living in violent communities, immigration, and deportation. Trauma is examined through the impact on the brain regions, memory, emotional regulation/dysregulation, and somatic responses. Demonstrations and experiential activities are a primary method of teaching and learning the theory and practice of working with trauma. Students will be required to learn about and connect to response management systems in their local communities. Course delivery methods for teaching and learning include online, blended, and face to face modalities.
