Food is the basis of human life so what, how and when a person ingests food or other substances affects human life and potentially brings on disease or helps cure it. Culturally and geographically different types of foods are available and ingested by people. A nurse needs to have an understanding of how food and special diets fit with the lifestyle, culture, and the therapeutic plan of care for each person under their care. \n\n
