The Dialectic of Oppression and Liberation

Catalog description

Within the context of a diverse and stratified society, this generalist course examines oppression as an interlocking force that exerts itself interpersonally and systemically on marginalized communities, and specifically the history of oppression in the profession of social work. Students will engage in utilizing critical thinking skills, analyzing power differentials, and examining their own personal and professional biases. Students will be invited to engage in the conceptualization of an advocacy initiative in a process centering self-reflection, community-driven methods of social work practice, and alignment with the NASW and/or IFSW Code of Ethics.
