Catalog description

This course describes the mechanisms and outcomes of local land conservation in the United States with an emphasis on the Delaware Valley. It begins with early trends in American conservation and a focus on public parks before transitioning to the land trust movement and the preservation and stewardship of private land. Students learn a variety of strategies, incentives, and mechanisms for conserving land. Field trips to local conserved sites, meetings with land conservation professionals, and case studies provide first-hand examples.
