Catalog description

Emphasis is divided between theory and experimental procedure. The course begins with a brief review of ray optics and introduces ABCD matrices. Wave optics topics include polarization and Jones vectors, Fresnel coefficients, optical filters, superposition of quasi-parallel plane waves, optical coherence and interferometry. An emphasis is placed on the practical application of these concepts to optical instrumentation.
