Philosophy of Race

This course employs philosophy to explore the issues of race, racism, and the problems of racial injustice in contemporary society. We cannot avoid the question of race in our lives today; it is central to many issues about justice and ethics, as well as our identities and lived experiences. Although conversations about race and racism are not easy and can evoke strong emotions, they are crucial. This course aims to help students develop competence in talking about race issues in productive and enlightened ways by grounding discussions in philosophy, while also imagining ways to achieve racial justice in society.
