Differential Diagnosis for the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Catalog description
This course focuses on developing advanced diagnostic reasoning and clinical judgment skills necessary for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) practice across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on formulating differential diagnoses through comprehensive assessment; application of DSM-5-TR criteria; and integration of biological, psychological, sociocultural, and developmental data. Students utilize evidence-based screening tools and structured interviews to support clinical decision-making and case formulation. The course also integrates ethical, cultural, pharmacologic, and psychotherapeutic considerations essential to differential diagnosis and interprofessional collaboration in mental health care.
