Catalog description

This course prepares Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) students to integrate the professional role of the advanced practice psychiatric nurse with evidence-based psychotherapeutic modalities across the lifespan. Students examine theoretical, ethical, and professional foundations of psychotherapy while developing competence in individual, group, and family modalities. The course emphasizes therapeutic communication, the nurse-patient relationship, trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, and ethical decision-making integral to the PMHNP’s psychotherapeutic practice.
