This course provides an in-depth exploration of the theoretical foundations that guide advanced psychiatric-mental health nursing practice. Students critically examine nursing, psychotherapeutic, neurobiological, and integrative models that inform the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on synthesizing theory with evidence-based practice to support holistic, person-centered, and ethically grounded psychiatric care. Cultural humility, health equity, and ethical reasoning are woven throughout, preparing PMHNP students to apply theoretical perspectives that integrate psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and complementary approaches in diverse clinical settings.
