Clinical Judgment and Prioritization in Clinical Practice

Catalog description

Clinical judgment refers to the process by which nurses make decisions based on nursing knowledge (evidence, theories, ways/patterns of knowing), other disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning. This process is used to understand and interpret information in the prioritization and delivery of care. Clinical decision-making based on clinical judgment is directly related to care outcomes. Students will learn to use critical thinking skills to analyze information, consider alternatives, and make sound decisions based on evidence. They will also use their clinical reasoning abilities to connect assessment data, patient history, and diagnosis to make appropriate nursing decisions.
