Health and Physical Education Practicum

Catalog description

Designed to provide certification candidates with the opportunity to effectively implement best teaching practices though planned field experiences in health and physical education. The candidates will utilize their field experience to demonstrate a) professionalism, b) best practices with curriculum, assessment, and instruction, c) the implementation of a positive learning environment and d) reflection of the classroom experiences. Candidates will analyze day-to-day and overall health and physical education teaching responsibilities through working directly with a mentor teacher. Students will also participate in a weekly practicum seminar to overview course content. Students will engage in 5 hours per week, 50 hours total (25 hours of physical education, 25 hours of health education) throughout 10 weeks (Pennsylvania Department of Education Stage 3 Field Experience) of the semester to analyze effective teaching in health and physical education.
