Through classroom and hands-on teaching experiences this course will provide Health and Physical Education majors and Adapted Physical Activity Minors with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to 1) meet the needs of students with disabilities in various settings by providing adaptations and modification; 2) assess students with disabilities and make recommendations for goals, objectives, specially designed instruction, placement, and adaptation/modifications; 3) be an active participant on the multidisciplinary team, and 4) meet the beginning teacher standards. Students will engage in classroom observations and teaching K-12 youth with disabilities health and physical education (Pennsylvania Department of Education [PDE] Stage 3 Field Experience) hours through out the semester to apply adaptations and modifications to meet the needs of students with disabilities in various settings; assess students with disabilities and make recommendations for goals, objectives, specially designed instruction, placement, and adaptation/modifications; participate on the multidisciplinary team; and instruct K-12 youth with disabilities.
