Catalog description

Designed to provide Health and Physical Education Teacher certification students with the knowledge and skills needed for teaching a quality and comprehensive grade K-5 physical education curriculum. In this course, students will a) describe essential components of grade K-5 quality physical education curriculum, b) plan for an elementary physical education unit (curriculum, appropriate instruction, student assessments), and c) demonstrate best pedagogical practices through peer teaching, and d) engage in Pennsylvania Department of Education Stage 2 Field experience in a K-6 Physical Education environment. Students will engage in classroom observations (Pennsylvania Department of Education [PDE] Stage 2 Field Experience) hours throughout the semester to analyze effective teaching in physical education.
