Catalog description

Designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge needed for teaching a quality and comprehensive K-12 health & physical education curriculum. In this course, students will a) understand the history and philosophy of health and physical education, b) analyze the Essential Components of a Quality Health and Physical Education Program (policy & environment, curriculum, appropriate instruction, student assessments), and c) examine best pedagogical practices through observing veteran teachers. Students will engage in classroom observations (Pennsylvania Department of Education [PDE] Stage 1 Field Experience) hours throughout the semester to analyze effective teaching in health and physical education.
