Applied Learning Experience II

Catalog description

This is a core course, the capstone experience in all three concentrations of the MPH program. The purpose of this course is to enable students to complete their culminating experience professional portfolio at their placement site, selected during the prior semester during the orientation phase ( HEA 649 ). This course is the practicum phase of the applied learning experience. Students will develop and implement their proposed major project, two professional products, and will engage in professional practices activities mutually beneficial to the student and to the site. During their professional internship students will engage in professional practice activities and develop two products that have utility to the placement agency, while completing 200 hours under the supervision of an eligible public health professional. It is intended to bring students together from a wide array of subdisciplines in public health, and through field and research experience explore and share common principles of public health practice. Students will choose a project within their area of expertise and, under faculty guidance, produce an end product that meets professional standards. A formal virtual student presentation will conclude the applied learning experience.
