Global Community Health Promotion

Catalog description
The course will provide an overview of the main concepts involved in global community health promotion and program planning for global health. Students will be provided with an overview of the basic principles of global health promotion; “how to” measure a country’s health status and resources; cultural influences on health; how to use existing data resources to analyze global health, the multiple links between health and equity, health disparities among low-income countries; the tools needed to develop an assessment of a country’s health problems and an intervention plan with solutions to address those health problems; and key actors in global community health. Students will analyze a country’s community health by developing a comprehensive plan for a community health promotion program. The course will use multiple teaching strategies, group interaction, case studies, global health promotion plans, and web-based global health materials.
