GIS for Climate Monitoring, Hazards, and Emergency Management

Catalog description

As climate change intensifies, urban and community planning, as well as emergency management of hazards, need cutting-edge tools to plan for and respond to natural and human-induced disasters. This course explores the role of GIS for use and analysis of local and global climate and infrastructure data for Planning and Emergency Response. Students will learn how GIS is used as part of the FEMA Emergency Management Guidelines, Professional Planners use GIS to plan for hazard mitigation, and how local emergency professionals use GIS to monitor and respond to emergency events.
