Catalog description

This online course is designed to help students understand literacy acquisition and development for students with learning challenges in grades K-12. The primary focus will be on literacy instruction through a comprehensive methodology rooted in diverse theoretical teaching models (including structured literacy, critical literacy and culturally responsive pedagogy) derived from current research. Through readings, video lectures, and interactive module activities, participants will develop a foundational understanding of the reading and writing process and how to construct and manage a classroom to meet the diverse needs of learners at every stage of literacy development. Additionally, students will learn how to use diagnostic assessments to monitor literacy progress and plan appropriate instruction.
