Reading in the Content Areas

Catalog description

This course will give teachers an understanding of the role of literacy in the content areas. It will include specific ways to teach literacy through content assignments, enabling the teacher to be more effective in teaching the subject area and in developing students’ skills that will help them become independent learners. It will focus on specialized strategies, metacognitive principles, teaching techniques, and learning activities in literacy in and across subject areas at the elementary, middle, secondary levels and for students who learn differently.
