This course is designed to provide an introduction to the American Jury System. This course will describe a brief history of juries that originated in England during the Middle Ages. The evolution of the Jury System in America will be described, including the jury selection procedures, voir dire process, and deliberation dynamics. This course will share information about the American Jury System through textbook materials, videos, descriptions of court processes, and reviews of U.S. Supreme Court findings in critical cases related to petitioners' claims of violations of equal protection and due process guarantees of a fair and impartial jury.
